Captains Log 2017

From Double Rum the Boat 12:31 p.m. 15 MB January 2017

The fishing in the inner Hauraki gulf is just amazing. The fish has certainly moved into shallow areas but there are still plenty of big fish out wide. What does concern me is the number of big commercial fishing boats on the outside of the barrier taking out acres of bonito and anything else in the schools. Also this year we have found many commercial fishing boats form Tauranga and Whangarea fishing the inner gulf especially the bottom end of Waiheke, Kawau and Tiri. These guys are laying over 3,000 hooks per drop . The blue water is now in. There have been blue marlin sightings around Simpsons rock and outside of Mercuries, many yellow fin on the outside of the Auldermins. Still lots of Hapuka being caught.

February 2017

The fishing has just been super, we have blue water now in the outer Hauraki Gulf. Wind s have become slight, we see flying fish everywhere at dusk. We see skip-jack tuna everywhere now and they are big. People are catching marlins just outside of little barrier and big hapukas are being caught on all the outside reefs.Book now Doublerum We are a fishing charter from gulf harbour.

March 2017

The Fishing has  just gone crazy these last weeks, if you are fishing shallow or deep the fish are every where and they are on the bite, so many nice snapper and Kingfish also. Trips have being coming back full, the weather patterns have been a concern, with so much rain. The water was blue now its dirty, lots of tuna around the cablezone  all the way up to the noises, people have spotted Marlin in close to Kawau,  and I have seen people with Game rigs out amongst the Skippies, Fish from this great Auckland fishing boat

The Jae Carpeting Trip

April 2017

Early April the rain and the wind has kept us in habour. Maintenance on the fire equipment/turbos have been carried out including new amps for the stereo. The boys have been busy. In between the wind and the rain we have been catching, all trips have been coming in with great fish.

The Ideal Trip

May 2017

We didn’t do too many trips in May. The weather was terrible but we did plenty of maintenance on the boat. However the days we did go out, we continued to catch our limits.

June 2017

The weather has finally changed into winter fishing. Big fish are now being caught. It is not easy, it is taking a lot of patience but the groups are getting their limits. A little bit cold standing on the front deck but we are catching out towards Little Barrier around the 50 meter mark. Here are some photos.
